the biggest threat to humanity right now?

If you rightly think it could be any of the following:

you would actually be quite wrong, because according to too many folk the biggest threat to humanity right now is the miniscule portion of the population (less than 1%) who would like to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity.

Alternatively (complementarily?), it could also be the "woke mind virus" that saviour DeSantis (alternative name DeSadist) is determined to stamp out. Both in Florida, and if enough [insert noun here as any of mine would be both snarky and rude] vote the "right" way, the entire United States of America.

So, whatever issue you picked from the list above (you silly nincompoop), you obviously don't see what will REALLY be humanity's demise.

p.s. I'm working on a longer post, but thought I'd publish this right away to give you time to reconsider the actual cause of the upcoming doom and prepare accordingly. ;)

Love your writing. I don’t open 90% of my emails, but I always open yours.

Aw thank you Debra! Your compliment made my day.

Really don't know how many readers read my ramblings, but if at least one person enjoys what I post, then I'll keep on truckin' as they used to say. :)

Sorry I'm so far behind - and I'm not going to catch up much right now - but as I sit in my Berlin apartment through yet another hot summer with no a/c...I'm choosing heat. Snort! Seriously though, we human beings are driving so many species extinct through our contribution to a planet that already has its own warming cycles....and we're now (globally, not only the EU from what I've read) in another seriously dangerous summer of heat and drought. It makes me sick to see us destroying the planet. I don't have a very big carbon footprint (I know you don't either), but we're as a species also using up and/or ruining our planet's water, soil and air. But tell that to those people you're referring to in this post and they will not only make fun of you, but also get disproportionately angry about someone saying something they supposedly don't believe in. I dunno, I say let's give AI a crack at running things. They sure wouldn't do worse than we have. 😆

Hey Krissa, yeah, I heard Europe's going through a second heat wave right now, with Italy, Spain and Greece being especially bad.

Apparently our planet had the hottest June on record, with the first week of July being the hottest week on record. Unreal.

But what I really don't understand is the record number of people who STILL think the climate crisis is a hoax, isn't happening, and are truly convinced that what's happening all across the globe is normal.

What more evidence do they still need? Or it is just a stubborn didn't-believe-it-before-so-not-gonna-ever-admit-I-was-wrong stance?

And even if they didn't give a damn about the planet and other species, what do they think will happen to people with continuing droughts, flooding, wildfires, etc.,?

Already one of the consequences is anti-immigration sentiment as folk are fleeing countries in part because of adverse effects of climate change, an increase in right-wing populism is spreading globally as fast as some wildfires do, and things are going to get much MUCH worse, especially if we don't even belatedly try to stem the climate crisis.

For the life of me I just don't get it...

"Or it is just a stubborn didn't-believe-it-before-so-not-gonna-ever-admit-I-was-wrong stance?" - When you see the way those people talk, I'm betting it's exactly that (arrow pointing up) reason.

The world is definitely in a pivotal time right now and it's scary to see the levels of ignorance in 2023.

I see on the news that there are more than 800 wildfires burning in Canada right now. I am getting really sick of seeing the "it's not global warming, it is bad forest management". You can totally see that there are so many people who pick up that ball and run with it, having zero regard for the fact that the conditions that are leading to more and bigger of these fires all over North America are man made. Don't ya just wanna shake people and yell "WAKE UP"!!! 😐

have gone vegan said in reply to Krissa...

Absolutely, I wanna shake 'em! Not sure if anything will wake them up though. It's such a stubborn denial, even when it's happening in their own regions.

Doesn't help either when some of our own government officials are in denial as well. Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario, for example, was spouting the same nonsense -- lighting strikes, campfires, arson -- all to blame, NOT climate change.

Carbon emissions from those Canadian wildfires have already more than tripled in 2023, and we still have almost half a year to go. I guess it's just going to have to get so bad that governments will finally try to do something when it's too late. Because it IS too late already.

There, how's that for a completely non-pessimistic outlook? Snort.

Every summer I'm shocked all over again at how much of North America is burning. And I have to try hard to get it out of my mind. Trees and plants can even run. To think of all the suffering is bad enough, but the aftermath and the contribution of the fires to an existing problem that is, sadly, as you pointed out, beyond repair already is just too much. I get really mad at all the petitions I have to sign to protect old growth forest for example from becoming toilet paper. Humanity overall seems to have become something unrecognizable as belonging to earth. We (overall) don't treat each other well, or any other creature on the planet or the planet itself well. Deniers of all kinds are criminal. 😤

have gone vegan said in reply to Krissa...

Yep. Google Jasper Canada if you really want to get angry and depressed. How many f***ing fires do we have to have before folk wake up? The thing is, they won't. They'll blame "bad forest management" or environmental "terrorist" arsonists trying to make a point, or come up with any other number of ridiculous reasons, but no, it'll NEVER be climate change, NEVER the goddamn fossil fuel industry, NEVER the corporations making millions and smiling while our planet goes to hell, and NEVER the enabling and complicit politicians.

What also pisses me off is when they announce that there were no fatalities, no casualties, even though countless animals will have been killed, or injured, and most definitely displaced from THEIR habitat. But no, they don't count.

Frankly, I'm at the point where I think the humans species as a whole deserves every single catastrophe that WE are responsible for creating. If we're greedy and stupid enough to destroy our own planet, then that's on us.

Can you tell I'm running out of patience with people? And this might sound selfish, but I'm glad I've only got a couple of decades left while I have to keep watching this shite unfold. :(

Oh good grief...I didn't think I'd written enough to need to proofread that last comment. "Can't run". Trees and plants can't run. For crying out loud.

have gone vegan said in reply to Krissa...

Haha, have to admit I had to stop when I read about trees and plants running and was wondering, what latest news of nature have I missed? ;)
